Who is eligible for Washington University off campus housing?
All graduate students who are enrolled full-time at Washington University in St. Louis are eligible to live in Graduate housing. All students enrolled who undertake an academic workload consisting of any combination of courses, work experience, research, or special studies that is considered a full-time workload.

Washington University Affiliates individuals are all other individuals (exchange students, visiting researchers, post-docs, interns and hospital residents) staff and faculty of Washington University.

Professional and Graduate Student Family Housing is available. Full-time graduate students may request housing for themselves and their dependents. Family is defined by a partner or spouse, children, and legal dependents. Family housing is not for extended family members (parents, siblings, etc), unless the family member is a legal dependent.

When should I apply for housing?
Applying for an apartment is easy, decide on an apartment, call, email or visit. We have OPEN leasing throughout the year!

You may apply for housing after you have been accepted into the University. Applications are processed in the order of the date they are received; you should submit your application to reserve an apartment as early as possible.
Examples: Fall Semester – Availability begins February–August

Can I apply without a student ID number?
You may apply before you receive your student ID number but you must provide either your student ID or University letter of acceptance prior to your move in date.

How to begin your apartment search?
There are several ways to choose an apartment. Schedule a tour with one of our leasing professionals before you arrive or review openings by selecting your housing type on our website.

If you are not able to visit in person we have made it as easy as 1-2-3. Review, select and apply. You will be required to fill out an application. Your application will be processed and a representative will contact your to finalize your information with payment of the deposit.

Is there an apartment wait list?
No, all available apartments are posted on-line, either for immediate selection or for future dates. Apartments vary on availability.

How much can I expect to pay for my apartment?
Our housing is available in a variety of prices. Prices vary based on the building, location, amenities, house or apartment size, and condition of the place. Utilities are rarely included in the cost of houses but may be included in the cost of some apartments. Remember to figure in the cost of renter's insurance - about $150-$200 per year. Rents are set at market rates, comparable to the neighborhoods in which they are located.

What are your lease terms?
Although leases vary in their start dates, under most circumstances they end on June 30 of each year. However, we do offer December 31 and May 31 options as well at no additional charges.

Can I bring a pet?
All our apartments are cat friendly and we do have designated housing available for dog owners. Breed and size restrictions do apply as well as additional requirements.

Is short term housing available?
Short term housing is available for University affiliates who need housing options for less than 90 days. You may contact the Apartment Referral Office at 314-935-5092 or email ars@wustl.edu.

I have found an apartment. What steps are next?
To reserve the apartment an application is to be filled out and deposit is placed to reserve the apartment for your move in. (University City applicants are required to fill out an Occupancy Permit Application of $25.00.) After applying for the apartment lease paperwork can be sent to you.

When do I sign the lease?
After making a deposit on an apartment lease and move-in documents will be emailed to you and you will have one week to return the completed documents. If you are in town the lease and other documents will be completed upon your visit.

Is the deposit refundable if I cancel?
If you withdraw the application after 24 hours, a $100.00 retaining fee will be assessed for each day the apartment is reserved. If the apartment is held for the applicant for more than five days, all monies deposited shall be forfeited.

Can my friend or family reserve an apartment for me?
YES! A friend or family member may rent an apartment for you. You will need to provide a notarized letter or email stating such.

Can my rent be applied to my student account?
Our office is a subsidiary of the University and does not bill as part of tuition. However we make it easy for you. You may pay online, in our office or by mail. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, personal checks, cashier checks and money orders.

How do I find a roommate?
First answer is always the ARS website www.ars.wustl.edu. The site lists people seeking roommates, and anyone associated with the WU can list property free of charge.

Adding a roommate?
If you have already chosen a roommate please be sure to include them on the application.
You may make changes with roommates before your move in and must be an affiliate of the university.
During the lease terms a new roommate can only be replaced by a sublet approved by our office and the original roommate.

Ready to move in.. what do I do?
Your move in date is the same as the date on your lease agreement. To obtain the keys please plan accordingly. Your rent charges begin at the start date of the lease. Be prepared to finish any and all paperwork and pay your rent as you pick up your keys.

· Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Limited Dates in May-August Only
· Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Limited Dates August Only

Hints for International Students
To our international students, we hope your travels to the US are safe and enjoyable. While over 50% of students living in University owned housing are international students, representing countries from around the world, we do not grant housing to individuals based on international status. For questions about passports and immigration documents as you’re prepare to travel, please check with the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS).

· Please be aware that all times referenced during your search are in Central Time.
· Our studio apartments include a kitchen areas (refrigerator, stove/oven, sink) and a private bathroom.
· First floor apartments are generally on ground level.
